What to Expect
When you arrive at Sanford you will notice we are located in a little pocket of town that used to be the heart of the Italian neighborhood; bordering what is known as the “East Side”. We offer valet parking ($10 fee) and have a secure lot for your vehicle. The dining room at Sanford is a cozy 20 table space with no bar. However, we do have a service bar in the kitchen and are happy to offer a wide variety of beverages. We often observe our guests wearing business casual attire on the weeknights and a bit more formal dress on the weekends, but we as an establishment do not enforce any dress code; we just ask that you be comfortable. We can accommodate parties of up to 16 guests. It may be status quo at many other restaurants but please note that we never include gratuity on any check, no matter the number of guests. And although we love children, many of our guests are coming to dinner to escape the chaos of home or to celebrate a special occasion, so we respectfully ask that the little ones stay with a sitter.
Polite Request
When making a reservation it is advantageous for everyone if you inform our staff of any food allergies or dietary restrictions. There are many ingredients and steps involved in each dish on the menu that may not be as easily modified if told the night of your reservation. Giving us a “heads up” allows the chef the opportunity to thoughtfully create and modify dishes to accommodate any diet. *If there are any food allergies or dietary restrictions in your party and you are hoping to enjoy the Seven-Course Surprise, we cannot guarantee it. Our chef’s coffer’s are currently not as well stocked or varied for accommodating all diets and allergies. Please notify our staff when making your reservation so we may check with our chef’s to see if we may accommodate.
“Corkage Fee” and Carry-In Policy
Wisconsin Statute 125.32 6a prohibits patrons from bringing their own alcoholic beverages into a restaurant for consumption. The law states that licensed premises must supply an invoice proving the alcohol purchased by the restaurant is from a licensed wholesaler or manufacturer. Penalties for violating this law are very stiff, with a possible fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment for up to nine months for a first offense. Although we absolutely disagree with the law, we do abide by it. If you happen to bring in a bottle of wine from your home cellar please understand when our staff politely decline your request to open it. We are a business rooted in gracious service and accommodation, this law often dampens our gleam but we will do everything in our power to make sure you leave with a memorable experience.
Friendly Reminder
Dining at Sanford is an experience; it takes time. The dining experience is meant to be leisurely, our intention is to give all of our guests the time and opportunity for a respite from the daily “grind”. We love inviting guests to sit back and relax and let us take care of them. We hope you find your experience positively mystifying and thoroughly enjoyable!
Gift Certificates
Gift certificates can be purchased in any denomination over the phone or in person. We accept all major credit cards, cash, or check. Please call 1-414-276-9608 after 1:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday or stop in during dine-in hours.
A Day in the Kitchen
“A Day in the Kitchen” is the perfect gift for any foodie. Dressed in an original Sanford Chef coat, their day will start by spending a few hours in the Sanford kitchen commingling with the chefs. They can sit back and observe or get down and dirty with the prep, ask as many or as few questions as they like, and learn how laborious it is to create and execute dishes out of the Sanford kitchen. After being a “guest chef” they will take some time to go home, refresh, and come back with a guest to enjoy the 7-course Chef’s Surprise Tasting Menu with wine pairing.
Following dinner they will be given a bag of goodies accompanied by a copy of their menu with all the chefs’ signatures and a group picture; taken earlier that day. If you are interested in giving “A Day in the Kitchen” as a gift to a friend or loved one please call 414-276-9608 after 1:00 p.m. daily or stop in during dining hours.
